Building A Team That Grows Your Business

Building A Team That Grows Your Business

Growing your business comes down to far more than just more leads and sales. Growing your team is imperative to your success as there’s only so much we can do ourselves, however, you have to utilise your team well if you want to see your business grow.

Having had a neat time myself when I ran a marketing agency or whether it’s helping someone hire their first virtual assistant in their business, I’ve seen a snowball of positive effects come from growing and enhancing your team.

In this article I’ll share three pieces of advice to help you grow and strengthen your team.

1. Delegate repetitive tasks

Often business owners who are run off their feet don’t know where to start when it comes to having an extra set of hands. Even those who already have a small but mighty team can get lost in what to get off their plate. The best place to start is to delegate repetitive tasks that are done day in day out, or week in week out.

This can include:

  • Creating and scheduling weekly content

  • Uploading regular content to your website

  • Running repetitive reports

Look at your daily, weekly and monthly activities to investigate what you consistently do over and over again, this is what you can easily delegate.

2. Take the time to train and retrain

Your team or team members are not going to know what to do from the gate, it’s well worth it to take the time to train them and have patience as they get up to speed with the tasks at hand. Just because a task takes you 30 minutes to complete, at first it’s going to take much longer for your team member to adopt that task. But once they are trained up, it’s expected you will never (or rarely) be required to do this task again.

TIP: don’t take back tasks you’ve delegated.

It’s easy to take tasks back and slip into old habits, but make it a priority that once a task is delegated it has a new owner. If retraining is required, do that, rather than taking the task back.

3. Reallocate your new found time wisely

This is where the rubber hits the road, if you want to see your business flourish from the support of a growing team, you must reallocate your new found time wisely. Otherwise, you’ve just added another lot of wages to pay without a plan for your business to grow.

Your new found time can go towards:

  • Optimising your lead generation systems so you convert more clients

  • Expanding your marketing strategies so you reach more potential clients

  • Reviewing how to have existing clients work with you longer

A solid team can be the foundation to your business's success and with the right plan for growth, you don’t need to think about what comes first, the chicken & the egg or the team & new sales - you’ll be able to grow in conjunction.

Your team growing can also give you the motivation to take your business where you’ve always wanted it to go, they hold you accountable because you want to keep them busy. It’s an excellent move for business owners to continue to reflect on whether it’s the time to grow and enhance their team.

In my next article I’ll share how systems bring everything together in your business, often the missing link that lacks attention for busy, growing businesses.
